Tag Heuer, the luxury lifestyle brand has introduced a refreshed edition of its Meridiist Infinite smartphone. The upgraded Meridiist Infinite comes with a“perpetual power reserve” feature, which charges the phone’s battery from the display itself. The screen is based on Wysips Crystal Technology that puts an invisible photovoltaic cell layer between the glass and LCD of the display. The thin layer of invisible cells charge when you expose the phone’s display to sunlight. These cells charge themselves using artificial light too. The power is later transferred to the battery for longer usage time. Being a limited edition device, only 1,911 numbered units of the Meridiist Infinite will be made available.
The phone is made of grade 5 titanium alloy and carbon. It comes with a non-touch 2.4-inch TFT LCD display, which has a monochromatic OLED panel on top for displaying extra information. Other features of the phone include dual-SIM connectivity, a 5MP camera and 8GB of internal storage. There are no details about the OS and the battery capacity of the phone at the moment.
Tag Heuer is yet to reveal price of this luxury device, but since its predecessor is priced around $5340 (around Rs 3,21,000), this could be offered for much more.
Tag Heuer is touting it as the world’s first device with perpetual power reserve, but Alcatel has already showcased something similar at CES this year. However, Alcatel isn't planning to launch its solar-powered smartphone that also charges from the display anytime before 2015.
