The Redmi Note 2 comes with 16GB/32GB of storage and an octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor.
At its MIUI 7 launch event held in China today, Xiaomi took the covers off the long awaitedRedmi Note 2. The successor to the popular Redimi Note 4g, the Redmi Note 2 has received a few upgrades to bring it up to par with the competition.
The Redmi Note 2 comes in a range of colours like white, black, blue, yellow and pink. It measures 8.25mm around the waist, and weighs 160g. The phablet retains the same 5.5-inch display as its predecessor, but bumps up the resolution from 720p to 1080p. In low light, the display automatically switches to minimum brightness to make night reading easier. Powering the smartphone is a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 chipset clocked at 2.0GHz, aided by 2GB RAM. In the storage department, the Redmi Note 2 offers 16GB of memory.
It will be the first to ship with the newly announced MIUI 7 which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. For photography, the Redmi Note 2 features a 13MP primary camera with an aperture of f/2.2 and PDAF phase detection autofocus with 0.1 second speeds. There's also a 5MP OmniVision front camera which comes equipped with an intelligent beauty mode. Fuelling the device is a 3,060mAh user replaceable battery. It supports both TDD-LTE and FDD-LTE bands. A CDMA variant will also be available in China, although we're not sure if Xiaomi will launch this in India. Additionally, there's also a Prime version of the Redmi Note 2, which comes with 32GB of storage and bumps up the processor's clock speed to 2.2GHz.
The Redmi Note 2 is priced at 799 Yuan (approximately Rs 8080) for the CDMA variant, and 899 Yuan (approximately Rs 9100) for the GSM version. The Redmi Note 2 Prime with 32GB of storage will cost 999 Yuan (approximately Rs 10,100). Xiaomi has scheduled a MIUI 7 'Launch Premiere' event in New Delhi on August 19th where we'll learn more about the global version of the latest UI. The Redmi Note 2 is expected to be unveiled in India shortly, although we don't know if it will be making an appearance as early as next week. The Redmi Note 2 will be up against the MEIZU m2 note (review) and Lenovo K3 Note (review) when it launches in India.
